Sally the parrot sat beside the window, waiting for her owner, Henry.
Henry have went shopping with the other children, Scott, Amy and Dinah. Just then Sally heard a car hooting by. It was the children, they just came back.
‘Mother, where we are going for our summer hols?’ ask Scott.
‘Father and I has just suggest that why don’t we all go to Spiggy holes.’
‘Spiggy Holes? Where it is? It is a seaside?’ ask Dinah. ‘Yeah, you’re right’ said father as he came down the stairs. ‘You have to pack your own things yourself. We are going tomorrow.’ said mom. ‘There’s only twenty-four hours left.’ Says gentle Amy.
But before those twenty-four hours, something terrible happen. It happen at dinnertime, mother had a terrible fever. The temperature of mother was so high until she has to be hospitalized. ‘Never mind’ said father. ‘You can take a train to Spiggy Hole on your self.’ said father. ‘Oh, how super.’ Said Henry. He quickly spread the news to the others. Soon everybody in the house was talking about it.
The next day, the children woke up very early as they had to get ready for the trip to the sea side. At last, everything is ready. They drop by the hospital and visit their mother before they leave.
Finally they reach the train station. ‘There will be a wagon waiting for you there . And there is also a caretaker at the farm house.’ Said father. As they were in the train, a voice shouted behind them, wipe your feet, shut the door, who’s there? The children were frightened as they look back, they laugh, and it was only Sally the parrot.
About four o’clock, Dinah shouted: we were only one station away, get ready you all. At last the train came to a stop, the four children hop out the train with their luggage. Once their out the train, they immediately spotted a wagon out side the station. The farm lad, Brock
Asked, party for four at this way.
‘I wonder how the caretaker will look like.’ Asked Amy when she was getting in the wagon. Brock answered: You will know when you get there. She’s a timid little woman with grey hair. Her name is called Brimming. ‘I shall call her Brimmy.’ said Amy. ‘You don’t know that
she will be angry or not.’ Said Scott.
‘Hey, isn’t that the farm house were going to stay? Asked Henry as the wagon was slowing down. ‘Yes, this is it.’ Answers Brock.
Outside the house stood Mrs. Brimming. They shook their hands one by one. Even Sally takes her claw out too. ‘Oh, what a parrot!’ Mrs. Brimming shouted. ‘Listen here, hand out your homework.' Said Sally the parrot and gave a sound of a car changing gear.
Mrs. Brimming bought them up stairs to the bedrooms and said: Choose the room you wish to sleep in to. Come down when you’re done. Hi- tea is waiting down stairs for you.
Henry and Scott take the small room that have a wonderful view; while the girls took the bigger room beside the boys’ bed room. ‘Are you girls ready?’ shouted Scott when he was coming down.
‘I smelled bacon and egg.’ Said Dinah. They all enjoy the meal Mrs. Brimming had made. ‘Brimmy, did you made all this scones and bacon all by yourself, or did you get any help from Brock, the farm lad?’ asked Amy.
The others look at each other, will Mrs. Brimming be angry? They are all waiting for answers. ‘Oh, I was call like that when I was in high school. It nice to hear the old name again. And I made that food my self.’ Said Mrs. Brimming, smiling. So they all called her Brimmy after that. ‘Wipeyourfeetblowyournose’ shouted Sally at the top of her voice as she was bored of the conversation. ‘All right, all right.’ Said Henry as he is getting up from his sit.
‘What shall we do next?’ ask Scott and Amy. ‘I know there are cave at the beach. Why don’t you explore those caves? Well just don’t get trapped in the tide.’ Suggested Brimmy. ‘Yeah!’Shouted Dinah.
‘Wait a minute. You have to follow some rules.’ Said Brimmy. ‘What, rules. This sounded like school.’ Complain Scott. ‘No, you just have to come back on time for your meals and you can tell me if you want to go picnicking.’ Said Brimmy. ‘It’s okay. We all got watches. We will come back on time.’ Said Henry.
‘Now you all go and have some fun.’ Said Brimmy. ‘Have some fun. Have some fun.’ Yelled Sally as she picks up some new words.
They all feel the sand with their toes. The sand was warm and the weather was good. They enjoy every moment of the sun shine. Why don’t we go swimming? We can explore the magnificent cave next time.’ asked Henry. Every one agreed except Amy. ‘I want to go to walk at the cave.’ Said Amy.
She went to the cave, and then suddenly, she heard a sound. It was somebody talking. She look in to the cave, to her surprise she saw a man with black coat. The man suddenly turns around, he ask: ‘Who are you? And why are you here?’ ‘I am one of the children who live at Spiggy Hole.’ Answered Amy. ‘You should go now. The tides coming in, anyway my name is Bill.’ Answered the man.
Meanwhile the others are playing at the sea. ‘Attention please, opens your book at page ten. Said Sally in a stern voice. ‘New trick, she copied that from the math’s teachers.’ Said Henry.
After saying that word, Amy ran down to the beach. Everyone knows that she got something to tell, because her face was full of excitement.
‘Guess what I saw in the cave?’ asked Amy. ‘A baby starfish, a pink elephant?’ answered Scott. ‘Of course not silly, it’s a man with black coat!’ shouted Amy.
‘Gosh, did he tell you his name? Asked Dinah. ‘His name is called Bill.’ Answered Amy. ‘Bill, bill, pay the bill.’ Said Sally and gave a sound of the wave dashing against the rocks. ‘Bill, that’s a fine name for a man.’ Said Henry.
‘Hey, its getting late, lets get back before Brimmy gets worried.’ Shouted Scott. But Brimmy was already worried, but just then there came the children.
‘I thought you’re not coming back. I have baked a delicious chocolate cake and a few scones.’ Said Brimmy. ‘Wow, that’s super delicious.’ Said Amy as she tasted the chocolate cake.
‘I feel very sleepy.’ Said Henry after eating finish his dinner. Just then Sally gave an enormous yawn. That yawn made everyone fell sleepy.
So everyone was to go to sleep. ‘Isn’t it nice to sleep in Spiggy Holes?’ asked Scott. But there was no answer, Henry was already asleep, dreaming about the man Amy told him about.
The next morning, Dinah woke up the first. She was surprise to see a different ceiling. Then she remembered where she is, Spiggy Holes.
Amy was the next to wake up and the boys woke up last. The boys were awaked because of Sally. ‘Sally! Why did you shout?’ said Henry and gave the parrot a good tab on the beak. Sally was never been treated like that before. She talks sulky to herself. ‘Poor Sally, poor, poor Sally.’
When the boys came down, Amy and Dinah were already started eating. ‘How are your first nights at Spiggy Holes?’ asked Brimmy as she was coming down the stairs.
‘Oh, it was fine. It was nice to fell the sea breeze and the sound of the wave dashing again the rocks.’ Said Amy.
‘The weather looks fine; we can go fishing in Brock’s boat.’ Suggest Scott. But he was wrong, the weather was very bad. Just after eating breakfast, Dinah heard some loud thunder. ‘Oh, my plan was ruin!’ shouted Scott loud. ‘Never mind, we can play a game in our room.’ Said Amy.
Amy was right. Just after their game of UNO, the terrible rain stops. ‘Now we can go boating.’ Said Henry. ‘No I think we should go to the cave and find that man Amy saw yesterday. We can know more about him.’ Suggest Dinah.
‘Okay, you won.’ Said Scott. So they went to the cave that Amy saw Bill. ‘Bill, are you there?’ asked Amy. Then they heard some grinning behind them. ‘Bill!’ shouted them all.
‘I thought you are a ghost. You should not have grinned so loud.’ Said Amy. ‘Why, do you live in this damp old cave? This place gives me creeps.’ Said Dinah.
‘I don’t live here. I live behind this cave. Look at this.’ Said Bill as he pushes a stone. It was a hut with a balcony. ‘Wow this is wonderful. Can we go in and see?’ asked Amy.
‘Go in and see.’ Said Bill. The house was beautifully kept. ‘Hey, there’s a boat behind the house.’ Shouted Dinah. ‘Bill, is this your boat?’ ask Scott.
‘You’re right.’ Answered Bill. ‘Beauty, beauty, you beauty idiot.’ Shouted Sally at the top of her voice. Sally then received a smart tap from Henry.
‘Oh, you can come here after lunch. I’m going to do some shopping.’ Said Bill. ‘Thanks a lot.’ Replied them all.
Later on, they had a game of splash at the beach. Then a noise disturbs them. ‘It sounded like a sports car, and it’s coming from our house!’ shouted Henry.
As they reach home, the Mercedes have left. ‘Brimmy, who came to Spiggy Holes just now?’ Asked Amy. ‘Oh, his name is Vanderson. He wants me to sell him this house.
‘Did you sell this house?’ asked Amy. ‘Did you sell? Did you sell?’ interrupted Sally the parrot. ‘Oh, shut up!’ shouted Henry. ‘So, did you sell this house toVanderson?’ he asked again. ‘Don’t be silly. Of course I didn’t. It has been my family’s house for 50 years. How could I sell it?’ replied Brimmy.
‘Oh yeah, what’s for lunch?’ asked Scott. ‘I have made some spaghetti and also bake some ginger bread.’ Answered Brimmy. ‘Ooh, sounds nice. I shall try both of them.’ Said Dinah as she wanted to praise Brimmy.
After their lunch, they go to the cave to meet good old Bill. They pushed the rock, and once again, they saw the beautiful hut. Bill sends them into his house. ‘Do you want to go shopping? I’ve got a few things to buy.’ Said Bill. ‘Oh, we want, we want.’ Said Amy.
So, they went off in Bill’s car. When they reached there, they bought some batteries for the torch, candles and some matches.
‘Got your things? Come, let’s go back.’ Said Bill.
When they reach back, Bill shows them his new radio. It has the newest technology there. They suspected bill was a spy when they saw the label “Spy Team Gadgets”. They asked Bill about the gadgets and Bill finally told them his secret. “I was here to spy someone called Vanderson. He was last seen here. Sorry I didn’t tell you that earlier.” Answered Bill.
